More Insight on The Power of Education

When asking people the best way to break the divide in regards to issues related to diversity and racism, almost everyone expressed that education was one of the best solutions to end racism. Everyone explained how education is the most important thing to help people understand the current issues and show them perspective on the problems occurring in the country, like the debate over Black Lives Matter. By educating each other on these topics and not avoiding them, society will be able to learn and therefore share what they learned. This could create a chain effect, and therefore help others learn about this issue over time. The people I talked to also expressed how important it is for kids to learn about race and different cultures from a young age. In the household, parents should teach their kids that everyone is equal despite their race. Education in school should put more emphasis on learning about different races and cultures. For instance, there should at the minimum be more history taught about African Americans and Native Americans. Overall, there is no quick way to break the divide that exists in this country. However, continued discussion and listening is the only way to combat this issue. Education is one of the best long-term solutions, and is a solution that we can work on each and every day.
